Halftime in Baltimore
BALTIMORE--It's halftime in Baltimore and the defenses are dominating as the Ravens lead the Denver Broncos, 6-0.
The Ravens, trying to hand the Broncos their first loss of the season, got field goals of 43 and 35 yards by kicker Steve Hauschka.
The first of those field goals came after Ravens safety Ed Reed forced a fumble by Broncos rookie tailback Knowshon Moreno following a catch on a screen pass. Reed hit Moreno just after the running back made the catch, and linebacker Terrell Suggs recovered the loose ball for the Ravens. The Broncos tried an instant replay challenge, contending that Moreno didn't have the ball long enough for a legal catch, but the officials upheld the original call of a fumble. The Ravens got the ball at the Denver 23-yard line and went nowhere before the field goal.
In the second quarter, the Ravens were about to have a first down at the Broncos 8 after a 13-yard run by tailback Ray Rice. But rookie right tackle Michael Oher was called for a 15-yard personal foul for a shove of Denver defensive lineman Le Kevin Smith at the end of the play. The Ravens were backed up to the 23-yard line and ended up settling for another field goal.
