Kokinis 'no longer actively involved'
The Cleveland Browns confirmed that General Manager George Kokinis no longer is with the organization.
In response to reports that Kokinis had been escorted from the team's facility by security personnel and apparently had been fired, the club issued a written statement Monday night that said: "Cleveland Browns General Manager George Kokinis is no longer actively involved with the organization.
"In response to rumors and reports that Kokinis was escorted out of the building today, the Browns deny those reports. In the interest of protecting the parties involved we will withhold further comment."
The Browns have a record of 1-7.
The move came one day after Browns owner Randy Lerner told reporters that he planned to hire a strong leader to oversee the franchise's football operations.
Lerner also indicated Sunday that he had no immediate plans to fire Eric Mangini as the team's coach.
