LJ to Bengals?

UPDATED (2:03 p.m.)...

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson reportedly is close to signing with the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to multiple reports, Johnson was scheduled to be in Cincinnati on Monday and could sign a contract with the Bengals if all goes well.

Johnson was released by the Chiefs and became a free agent after clearing waivers.

The Chiefs released him just as Johnson was about to return from a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. The suspension was imposed after Johnson compared the coaching credentials of Todd Haley, the Chiefs' first-year head coach, to those of his father, Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr., on Twitter. Johnson, according to reports, also used a slur referring to sexual orientation on Twitter, and used a similar slur when speaking to reporters. He later issued an apology.

The Bengals lead the AFC North with a report of 7-2. They potentially need help at running back at least temporarily because of a hip injury suffered by Cedric Benson during Sunday's triumph at Pittsburgh.

Johnson ran for 377 yards in seven games with the Chiefs this season, averaging only 2.9 yards per carry. He rushed for 6,015 yards in 6-1/2 seasons with the Chiefs.

Wow. I guess Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown miss the drama since the rest of the team seems to be staying out of trouble (at least with the law).

Wow, just when I was starting to root for the plucky, underdog Bengals. Oh well. Hope they don't win another game with this classless jerk.
