Grimm among Hall of Fame finalists

Former Washington Redskins guard Russ Grimm was among 15 modern era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Friday.

The group of finalists includes NFL career receiving leader Jerry Rice and career rushing leader Emmitt Smith, both in their first year of Hall of Fame eligibility.

Tim Brown also made the group of finalists in his first year of eligibility.

The other finalists are former coach Don Coryell and former players Cris Carter, Roger Craig, Dermontti Dawson, Richard Dent, Charles Haley, Rickey Jackson, Cortez Kennedy, John Randle, Andre Reed and Shannon Sharpe.

The 15 modern era finalists and seniors committee nominees Dick LeBeau and Floyd Little will be considered when the media members who serve as Hall of Fame selectors meet on Feb. 6, the day before the Super Bowl.

Four to seven nominees will be elected for enshrinement.

On a Monday Night game, probably in Grimm's final playing year, long relegated by age and injury to a backup role, an offensive lineman was hurt and had to come out. Dan Dierdorf said "Now coming into the game for the Redskins, the Great Russ Grimm."

The simple truth of this comment was thrilling, and I've never forgotten that moment.

Not only Grimm, but surely Jacoby, probably Bostic, as well as the rest of the Hogs, deserve to be enshrined forever in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

No question Big #68 should be inducted into the HOF. He was the anchor and (OL)leader during the glory years not to mention he was the "Head Hog. Like Art Monk, it has been a great in-justice Russ is not already in.

Russ Grimm should have already been inducted. It is unconscionable that not one Hog has been elected to the hall of fame. This is one of the greatest injustices in pro football.

Rice and Smith have to be locks. If Rice doesn't make it they should just implode the HOF. I think Dawson and Dent make it, as well as Coryell. Not sure about the others.
