Hill is odd man out in S.F.

The San Francisco 49ers have given quarterback Shaun Hill permission to speak to other NFL teams about a possible trade, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported.

According to the report, Hill no longer is in the team's plans after the 49ers signed free agent quarterback David Carr to back up Alex Smith.

Hill, a University of Maryland product, made 16 starts for the 49ers over the last three years.

He totaled 23 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions over those three seasons.

In the 2008 season, Hill threw for 2,046 yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games, eight of them starts.
