Jags re-sign Hayward

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed defensive end Reggie Hayward, the team announced Thursday.

He had been an unrestricted free agent.

Hayward has spent five seasons with the Jaguars after four seasons with the Denver Broncos.

He has 39-1/2 sacks in his nine NFL seasons, 17-1/2 of them with Jacksonville. He had 27-1/2 sacks in a three-season span for the Broncos and Jaguars between the 2003 and 2005 seasons.

He has suffered season-ending injuries in the opening games of two of the last four seasons.

"I favor Jacksonville," Hayward said, according to the Jaguars' Web site. "Do you really want to pick up and move? Do you really want to try to join another team and spark a new fire with another team or stay where you're established? I've got some things I haven't gotten done here, especially coming off that injury."
