Ballots due Wednesday in revote

The Associated Press's revote for last season's NFL defensive rookie of the year award is to conclude Wednesday.

Voters have been instructed to submit their ballots by then, according to multiple reports.

The AP announced the revote Monday.

Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing won the award. The NFL announced last week that Cushing had been suspended for the first four games of next season for violating the league's policy on banned performance-enhancing substances.

Cushing remains eligible in the revote. He received 39 of 50 votes in balloting by media members in the original vote, announced in January. Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd finished second, followed by linebackers Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers and Brian Orakpo of the Washington Redskins.

One voter, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, wrote that he voted for Cushing in the revote.

The AP also is taking a revote of its all-pro team at outside linebacker. Cushing was voted second-team all-pro.
