RNC or NFL? Fuhgeddaboudit!

Well, I know where I'll be. It seems like a full year since I travelled to Indianapolis in February to cover the Scouting Combine, and that's how long I've been waiting for real football again. I watched at least part of 12 different preseason games last weekend -- it's obviously an obsession. I suspect the choice will be simple for millions who are similarly afflicted. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir in this particular forum.

Just because my brain works this way, I'm now thinking of the comparisons. Is Tom Coughlin the John McCain of the NFL? A man once thought by some to be too rigid and dogmatic for success at the very top of his profession turns it around and finally gets the bright lights. And is Jim Zorn the Sarah Palin of this movie -- the surprise "outsider", vetted and chosen unexpectedly, perhaps showing an innate gift for the job despite the inevitable speedbumps the candidate will encounter (a hockey mom for Veep?/this guy's never even been a coordinator before!). Hey, at least Palin didn't get the team colors wrong in her introduction to the nation...

I'll watch the "highlights" of the RNC, but the first full, real NFL game of the season is a treat to be savored for three full hours. No contest.

I have John McCain's war record memorized by heart and know the name of Palins's parents, children, daughter Bristol's due date and also the name of the family dog.

I will be watching my REDSKINS.
