Better to Win With Baggage

With so much pressure brought to bear on sports' bottom line by sponsors and TV networks, it's understandable why many owners continue to choose talent over character.

Many owners are risk takers who believe they can rehabilitate or manage troubled or controversial athletes better than the last guy - and do so without alienating fans or sponsors and forfeiting the revenue they generate.

They also believe that the trade-off makes sense because they realize fans are far more interested in attending a championship parade than a draft lottery. So, the decision seems to be an easy one when faced with whether to put yourself in position to win with baggage or lose with class.
