Unity Needs Paternalism
One of the principal objectives of any Head Coach is team cohesion - unity.
No detail is too small in this area, and all NFL head coaches are tuned into building unity on a daily basis. That's why sometimes the head coach will decide what kind of music is played in the weight room (or none at all), who sits where on the team plane, and who rooms with whom on the road.
So if Romeo Crennel has banned political discussion in the locker room, he's doing it because he's determined it doesn't help team unity. And look at Monday night's game. It must have worked.
