ATL Needs a W

Note to Atlanta -- ride the star of Thursday's panel discussion into the end zone multiple times and beat the Vikings. Already an incredibly successful season, the Falcons have the opportunity now to become the talk of the league. They're already past the point of no return, having exceeded expectations in remarkable fashion. Except, if they lose to an equally hungry and needy Minnesota team, then they will become the great inspiring underdog story of a team who just fell short.

One way to not let that happen -- win. But even that may not be enough. They need to win out and have Tampa or Dallas lose one of their remaining games. Tampa hosts San Diego and Oakland to end the season. Hmmm. Ok, let's try Dallas. They host Baltimore and finish in Philadelphia. Well, we've got a shot here. The Eagles may very well be playing for its own playoff spot or the role of major spoiler when the Cowboys come to town. Either way, the Eagles and Cowboys hate each other. There will be no rolling over on the part of anyone. So there's Atlanta's best chance. However, if they don't beat Minnesota, a suddenly red-hot, division-leading squad, then they're about out of lifelines.

So give the ball to Michael Turner; throw deep to Roddy White; force a Tavaris Jackson interception and an Adrian Peterson fumble; and honor the 10-year anniversary of the franchise's 1998 NFC Championship stunner.

In other words, win.
