With their recent acquisition of quarterback Sage Rosenfels from the Houston Texans, the Minnesota Vikings have filled one of their two key holes on their roster. Over the past two seasons the Vikings have lacked a game-managing quarterback who is capable of bringing leadership to the team's offense. With Rosenfels, Minnesota now hopes that they have that player.

As free agency begins, the Vikings will be looking at one specific position that will give them the chance of having a breakout season. On offense, the team lacks a true starter at the right tackle position. In the past couple of years they have inserted players at tackle such as Ryan Cook, Marcus Johnson, and Artis Hicks. However, the team hasn't pegged any of the three as the future at the position, which brings them to the conclusion that they must upgrade this position this year.

There was a lot of buzz surrounding Jordan Gross and Vernon Carey, but both players re-signed with their respective teams. What made Vernon Carey interesting is that he was actually drafted by the Vikings current general manager Rick Spielman and would have been a perfect fit with Minnesota.

With those two players off the board, Minnesota will look to the rest of the free agent crop for an upgrade at the position. One interesting scenario could have the Vikings signing one of the two Eagles tackles, Tra Thomas or Jon Runyan, who are both free agents. What is intriguing here is that head coach Brad Childress was a former offensive coordinator in Philadelphia and surely has to have his eye on his two former bookends.

Adding a final piece to the Vikings already strong offensive line would go a long way towards giving the Vikings that one chance of breaking out in 2009. Whether it's opening running lanes for the NFL's top running back Adrian Peterson or protecting the team's new starter at quarterback, it's become clear that the Vikings number one priority is to find a right tackle for the upcoming season.
