Gotta Get Along

Jay Cutler and Josh McDaniels have to get on the same page. It's a travesty if they don't. The head coach and the quarterback are the leaders of a team, and if they're warring the locker room ends up in turmoil.

I've played for a lot of teams and this kind of conflict never works out. I remember back in Cleveland, Head Coach Bill Belichick didn't get along too well with Bernie Kozar, the starting quarterback. What happened? The Browns signed Vinny Testeverte and soon enough benched Bernie.

It doesn't have to be that way in Denver. From what I hear, I guess Head Coach McDaniels just doesn't know Cutler very well yet. The offseason is a great time for them to get to know and like each other. But they better patch things up before the season starts, or the Broncos are going to be in trouble.

Josh and Jay both have to realize that football is business. Sometimes in business bosses and employees don't love each other, but you swallow that and act like a professional. You can't cry over it, you pony up. McDaniels has to admit: "Yeah, we tried to trade you. It didn't work, now let's play together." Cutler has to admit: "The team tried to trade me. I didn't like but, now we gotta get along." If they don't, and this issue carries on the whole offseason, it's going to kill the team spirit and morale.
