Talent Always Gets Another Chance

New York Giants fans are thrilled today that Antonio Pierce will not be indicted in the Plaxico Burress gun case. Finally, the Giants are completely free of the distractions of the past several months and the focus can return fully to trying to win another Super Bowl.

There has to be some sadness, though, when you think about Burress.

Face it, the Giants don't get to Super Bowl 42 without him, and playing on a badly damaged leg he did catch the game-winning pass. Plax will always have a special place in the hearts of Giants fans.

That said, he has only himself to blame for the current mess he is in. Even if he spends two years behind bars due to the gun charges he faces -- which I find extremely harsh -- someone will give Burress a chance to play again. Talent always gets another chance.

Sadly for Burress, though, he has tossed away what could have been a historically good career. Even if he does play again, it will never be the same for Plax.
