Could it Be Cleveland?

When discussing if a team can match the 2008 Detroit Lions and go 0-16 in 2009, it's a good idea to think back to something you can relate to. Having covered the Miami Dolphins in 2007 I got to watch the team week in and week out find ways to lose. That is, until that fateful day in December when the Ravens essentially gave the Dolphins the game thanks to bad play-calling and missed field goals.

To go 1-15 that year, the Dolphins had the "right" formula. They had a first-year head coach who never had the respect of his players in that locker room (Cam Cameron). They had no true starting quarterback (Trent Green, Cleo Lemon, John Beck). They had injury concerns with their starting running back (Ronnie Brown). Their number one receiver was a guy who is known for dropping simple passes (Chris Chambers). And their defense could stop very few.

Which team meets all of the above criteria? The Cleveland Browns. Head coach Eric Mangini is already reportedly in the process of losing the respect of his players - if he ever had it to begin with. They have Brady Quinn and Derrick Anderson at the quarterback position - and neither is playing well. Jamal Lewis is ancient and has already missed time this season. Braylon Edwards is one of the biggest culprits of dropped passes. And their defense has given up 95 points already in just three games.

Things in Cleveland have the potential to get real ugly real quick. The media in Cleveland, much like in South Florida, is tough and will ask the difficult questions. That will make it hard to hide the foul smell of dissatisfaction that will be emanating from their locker room as things only get worse.

While I hope I'm wrong because I will never wish 0-16 seasons on anybody, I have a feeling it's going to be a cold, dark fall on Lake Erie.

Matt Infante, you don't know what you are talking about. You are too far away to know what is going on up here in Ohio. Edwards is gone, Anderson is the quarterback, and Mangini is not losing the respect of the players.
