Leaders Don't Panic

First off, the only thing that 0-2 guarantees you is that you are going to have 2 losses at the end of the season, that's it. There are teams that make the playoffs after starting 0-2 and even some that may win a championship.

The important thing is not to panic. Just look at the Carolina Panthers. They shouldn't get too upset. Sometimes your 0-2 because of your opponents. You start out the season against two quality teams -- teams you'd be happy to beat half the time and you end up with two losses. You sure as hell would rather be 2-0 or at least 1-1, but luck of the schedule can leave you in the hole.

As a head coach, when you start off bad, you need to stay positive. If all you do is add gloom to the tomb you can spiral down really quickly.

Take Jake Delhomme for instance. He's going through a rough patch, turning the ball over a lot -- a real slump. But we all go through bad periods of time, we all go through slumps, and as a leader it's how you handle those bad times effectively that determines your ultimate success. The best way to overcome them is take responsibility, then focus on the positives and go to work.
