Weak Vick Experience

Before Michael Vick was busted for possession of marijuana or arrested for his involvement in dog fighting, he was one of the most exciting names in football. Nike capitalized on that, signing endorsement deals with him and putting out ads like the Michael Vick Experience.

In that ad, amusement park goers can get strapped into a suspended coaster seat and take a ride in an NFL game as Vick himself. The ball is hiked landing in the surprised hands of the rider, who is whipped around on the Vick coaster, while blocking tackles and finally flipping into the end zone for a touchdown. "That's not in the playbook, but it should be," Vick says at the end. This ad would only work with someone like Vick, whose ability to run with the ball was as exciting as his passing game.

But that was back when the #7 Falcons jersey was seen everywhere, even here in Colts country. I have yet to see an Eagles jersey with Vick above the lucky number. That is less about Vick being a convicted felon and animal abuser and more about the lack of excitement in his game. In his regular season debut as an Eagle, he ran for seven yards and had two incomplete passes. Right now, the Vick Experience isn't much of a ride. It's kinda like when you take young kids to King's Island and have to ride Little Bill's Giggle Coaster instead of The Beast.

Forgiveness is divine, but it probably won't come until Vick turns on the excitement again. When and if that happens, there will be Eagles jerseys in Indy (sigh) and endorsement deals with Nike. I look forward to seeing PETA's use of the Just Do It slogan on their protest signs when it does.

'Put your dogs in Nike sneakers"

that will be the joke on Nike and Vick if they sign him

( ps for those who do not know 'dogs' are slang for feet--ha ha ha)
