Ochocinco-san, get funnier!

Chad, chad, chad.

Chad Ochocinco's ongoing effort to be the class clown is beginning to wear thin. But it's not because Roger Goodell's patience is running out, or football fans don't like a good joke, or because sports is too serious a business for characters with a sense of humor.

It's because, lately, Chad's just not funny.

Sending Pepto Bismol to your opponents the week before a big game because your "big play" potential gives them an upset stomach is funny.

Throwing on a poncho and sombrero after a TD catch makes me yawn. That's all you got, Amigo?

Unfortunately, Chad feels his strong numbers this season and the Bengals promising playoff hopes give him license to throw a stink bomb in the hall or pull the fire alarm in class. That behavior isn't witty or sly. It just falls flat.

Chad would be wise to do two things.

First, make more of the fact that whenever he is fined, he or companies close to him, also make an equal donation to a good cause. This is something I find redeeming about Chad and something that sets him apart from other players who cross the line.

And second, be more creative and, damn it, be funnier! Involve Cincinnati fans in these antics. Make them the focus for the camera. After every TD you or your teammates score give the ball to someone in the stands wearing the most outrageous costume if that's your schtick. Make them a part of the fun.

Chad Ochocino is a character and there is a place for characters other than detention. The nuns used to tell us "it's no good if the people are laughing at you rather than with you."

Chad should be concerned people aren't laughing at all.

Dude, you work for Levick Strategic Communications and you're going to sit there and make sweeping statement about what is deemed "Funny" and what is not as if you're God? Really? Funny is funny, dummy. It's in the eye of the laugher. I think people who think it's ok to make declarations that "This is Not Funny" are crazy lame. If it doesn't make you laugh, smile politely and move on, dude. If you want to say that you personally, the Levick Strategic Communications VP guy, don't think it's funny, fine. But to make big claims with no caveat, "This Is Not Funny," is just lame. These are all just your opinions, remember. And don't call people "Amigo."
