Fans are the real winners

The winner of the Super Bowl is... us! We win! We win! High-five over here, we win because the greatest sports league ever invented is matching up the two best teams of the previous season in an epic, can't-be-over-hyped National Holiday football game. Here, want some chili?

Of course we win. In this game, there is no Cinderella waiting to turn into a blown-out midnight pumpkin. The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts (also known as Peyton's Team) are heavyweights. Super Bowl XLIV is going to be fun. Try these ribs, they're are delicious!

This unofficial national holiday is better than all the other official ones because you spend the game with people you want to be with rather than people you have to be with. That alone is worth toasting. So sure, I'll take a beer.

And then when the game begins, half the people in the room are watching because of the commercials. I have never bought one thing I have ever seen advertised on a Super Bowl commercial - well, okay, maybe beer, chips and a car, but besides that, nothing. Still, it's fascinating how an industry that repels us every other day of the year intrigues us on Super Bowl Sunday when they give us the best of the best. There's probably a lesson in that. And speaking of the best, have you tried this home-made salsa?

And while the scoreboard operator will probably need to be in the best shape of his life to be able to keep up with these two offenses, I'll tell you that I think the Colts are going to win in a shootout. If you want to know why, you'll have to go to, where the football itself, from a cow on Archie Manning's farm, gives a detailed prediction. Speaking of which, would you like some steak tips?
