Vick's back...up

My son AJ got a concussion at rugby practice last Wednesday night. It's been a week, and he isn't feeling better. I took him to a sports medicine specialist who gave me a good analogy of the concussion. AJ's brain with a concussion is like a shaken snow globe, Dr. Kersey said. Every bit of that snow has to settle, but he has to avoid shaking it up again while waiting for that to happen.

Until we experienced it ourselves, I hadn't really thought about the seriousness of concussions, although I have been aware of the push for concussion safety and awareness in the NFL. So, I'm not surprised Vick was in for Kevin Kolb last week and may be in again for him this week. Kolb needs the snow to settle. While it does, the Eagles are fortunate to have a backup QB like Vick, who has the talent to come in and effectively lead an offense. (I shudder to think what would happen to the Colts if Peyton Manning were out.)

But when Kolb is ready, he will return as starter. At least I hope he will, because I don't want to see Vick as the starting quarterback, despite the fact that he seems to be back in pre-prison shape. He is fast, and he is talented, evident in his performance in Sunday's loss to the Packers. There are at least as many arguments for the young, talented Kolb - around whom the offense has been designed - though. The only difference is that I don't dislike Kolb.

What do you like about Kolb? Number of wins, touchdowns, completion pct., or is it his leadership and playoff wins....The best player who gives the team the best chance to win is supposed to start, that's the rule in athletics as anyone who has played on a TEAM knows...It's not supposed to be based on prison records or who we dislike.....
