Sunday Line Chatter, Week 4

Welcome, football fans, to the place where there's no question of whether a debate will actually take place. Last week was a bit ugly for Matt, who went 6-10 on his picks, and it was positively pug-fugly for Dave, who stumbled in at 4-12. The third member of the crew was a veritbale Nostradesi by comparison at 8-8. Overall, Matt leads the way at 24-21-1, while Dave and Des are just behind, and just ahead of .500, at 23-22-1. What a rivetingly close competition!

As usual, we have a Game of the Week, Games We Want to Watch, Games We Might Want to Watch, and Games We'll Skip to Nurse Our Hangovers From Dave's Wedding. Plus, we'll provide links to the game previews that we've already posted on The League, because we're helpful like that. So, on with the chatter:

Matt Bonesteel: Well, I'll just say that my Jets pick last week was, how do I put this delicately, utterly crapulent. I blame des for always being so optimistic about his team. Also, I missed out on my lock again when the Panthers went paws up against the vikings. So yeah, way to keep up the momentum, Bonesy.
David Larimer: I did get my lock right, but I was loud wrong on almost everything else. I can't think of a worst pick off hand.
Matt Bonesteel: hold on, I'm putting on my betting frock.
David Larimer: Onward, it's a very special wedding edition!
Matt Bonesteel: Yes, everyone send Larimer a fancy-type dishtowl or one single pice of flatware, 'cause he's getting hitched on Saturday!
bielerd: so I locked the Bills, which didn't work too too swimmingly, but I did pick the Chargers over my beloved Jets, which worked out all too well. and I had the huevos to take the Bengals, while you guys ended up with huevos all over your faces
bielerd: not my huevos, tho

Game of the Week: Redskins (+11) at Cowboys

Matt Bonesteel: Oooh, oooh, ooooh, lock alert, lock alert, lock alert.
Matt Bonesteel: How's that one?
David Larimer: Yes, I was prepared to give you the floor this time
bielerd: weak lock schtick, brah
Matt Bonesteel: Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last five NFC East games.
Matt Bonesteel: brah? seriously?
bielerd: no, not seriously. you are not, nor ever will be, my brah
bielerd: however, you do qualify for broski status
Matt Bonesteel: Awwwww. Tears of friendship are dripping all over the keyboard. Anyhoo, they're also 1-6 ATS in their last seven against the NFC.
David Larimer: whatever happened to the giant shoe and stealing grandma's money?
Matt Bonesteel: The shoe is getting re-soled at the gambling shoe repair shop. my grandmothers are dead.
bielerd: It's a big number, but this Cowboys team looks juggernaut-ish to me. On the other hand, that is one honking big number to cover against a quality division foe. hmmm...
Matt Bonesteel: Too big, in fact. That hole in the roof is so God can look down to see the Redskins keep this close enough. Campbell, whom I've badmouthed to just about everyone on the planet, is actually looking good. They may sniff 9-7 yet.
David Larimer: And yes, "brah" is lame. Like this rivalry, which I am on record as calling the MOST OVERRATED IN ALL OF SPORTS.
David Larimer: So two things happen in this lopsided, only-one-team's-fans really care rivalry: The Cowboys win in a walk, or both teams bumble around until lightning strikes for one of them
bielerd: of course 'brah' is lame. that's why it's a fun thing to call somebody
bielerd: I'll take the 'Pokes! too many weapons, not enough Jason Taylor on the other side.
David Larimer: The Cowboys don't look stumbly at all, but still, that's too many points. I like the Redskins to keep it close.

Uh, I'm a long time Skins fan and a season ticket holder for four years prior to retiring and moving to Albuquerque, but I'd for sure give the 11 points and back the Boys if it were not for having a personal policy of never actually betting against the Skins. The problem is that the Boys will dominate BOTH lines of scrimmage. Here's hoping I'm big-time wrong and the Skins can pull off an upset, but . . . don't bet the rent on that happening. If the game were at Fed-up Field, sure, 11 would be a few to many points to lay, but not down in Dallas. Prediction: Dallas 27, Skins 10. Best case scenario? Skins 13, Dallas 10.

Ditto my New Mexico friend. I live four miles from Texas stadium and it is truly tedious listening to these Bush loving yahoos talk about the Boys. That said, the Cowboys are awfully good. They will dominate the Skins. We're talking blow out. It's going to be ugly around here

Cowboys will add another one to the Skins loss column this afternoon.

Hate to say it but Dallas will pummel the Skins. Skins just don't have it yet.

Dallas 32
Skins 10

Most overrated rivalry in all of sports? You must not have actually watched these games recently (the MNF game a few years back when Brunell threw two TDs in the final two minutes to stun EVERYONE; the November game two years ago when we blocked a FG, Sean Taylor ran it back and we kicked a last-second game-winner -- this was my 22nd birthday).

Losing Jason Taylor hurts our pass rush but might actually help our run defense. Santana is a Cowboy-killer and Campbell played well against Dallas last year.

Skins should keep it close at least, and if they can force a turnover or two have a real shot at winning.

WAS: 30
DAL: 28

Can't have any thread on the Post without a knock against the President.

Hope you're enjoying your time in flyover country, Ray.

I've prepared a lovely helping of crow for the talking heads and bloggers. Just a reminder that the NFC East is the toughest division in football, and that the Cowboys aren't as good as people thought.
Hail to the Redskins!

What are you idiots talking about? Do you ever look up from your own navels to read the self-referential drivel you loose on the world? Gawd, there's got to be a buyout with your name on it.
