Sunday Line Chatter, Week 6: Games We Want to Watch

Baltimore (+4 1/2) at Indianapolis

Matt Bonesteel: CAW!
Dave: The Ravens are first in run defense, which isn´t nearly as surprising as the Colts being last in run offense. Joseph Addai is more hemmed in than a cab in Buenos Aires traffic; the difference is, the cab gets somewhere. Then again, Addai, unlike the cab, has to follow rules. Ravens.
Matt Bonesteel: How many of these are gonna reference his fantasy players?
bielerd: methinks Dave is even more happy to drop some Buenos Aires knowledge on us losers.
Matt Bonesteel: well, maybe we can turn the tables on him. the colts' offense is running as smoothly as the dc government, while the ravens' defense has become stout again, like, um, the stouts they serve at the Brickskeller!
Matt Bonesteel: i bet he's on the first flight home after reading that.
Matt Bonesteel: I'm dropping some local knowledge on him.
bielerd: ummm... let me try to follow that....
bielerd: ummm... and the Ravens' pass rush will have Manning in a constant state of Beltsville?
Matt Bonesteel: yes! that's the spirit!
bielerd: speaking of local knowledge, I'm not really sure why the Colts are getting so many points here. It can't be the imposing home-field advantage they've built up at Lucas Oil Field
Matt Bonesteel: Yeah, I've been trying to come up with one word to describe the Colts' offense. "Rickety" was the best one so far.
bielerd: it has rickets, eh? drink more milk, Indy!
Matt Bonesteel: Baltimore's D will keep this one within spitting distance, so I'll go with the Ravens. CAW!
bielerd: It's a sweep, or is it a Baltimore chop? I also will take the Ravens. um, caw.

Game Preview

Carolina (+1 1/2) at Tampa Bay

Dave: The Panthers´ defense has faced nothing but star running backs, with the possible exception of Matt Forte, who could end up a star. Yet they haven´t allowed a 100-yard rusher. Since I managed to dredge up an actual stat, I better roll with it: Panthers.
bielerd: I want to sound savvy and take the Bucs, as I do think they get no respect from just about anyone who doesn't frequent Raymond James Satdium
Matt Bonesteel: so take them, you coward.
bielerd: well, I'm a little leery of their QB situation. on the other hand, why would I would be leery just because Garcia is taking over for Griese who took over for Garcia. They're interchangeable!
Matt Bonesteel: Did you know that Jake Delhomme is 7-1 lifetime against the Bucs?
Matt Bonesteel: Did you know that he's never lost in Tampa?
bielerd: nope didn't know. well, all streaks must come to an end at some point, right?
Matt Bonesteel: Did you know that the similarities to this Panthers team and the 2003 Super Bowl team are pretty striking?
Matt Bonesteel: Did you know I'm making this one my 100,000-STAR, VEGAS BUSTER LOCK OF THE WEEK!!!!!!!?
Matt Bonesteel: Panthers, that is.
bielerd: did you know that that supposedly awe-inspring 2003 panthers team only swept the Bucs by a total of 6 points? Look, it's a game between what I see as two fairly evenly matched opponents. I'll take the home team. Bucs.
Matt Bonesteel: who cares. a close win still would make my lock a winner.
Matt Bonesteel: so would a one-point loss.

Game Preview

New England (+5 1/2) at San Diego

Dave: I don´t understand why the Chargers are favored by this much. Patriots.
bielerd: it's worth mentioning that Dave was looking at a 6-point line.
Matt Bonesteel: hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate
Matt Bonesteel: that's the chargers' mind-set right now.
bielerd: oh, right, the Chargers' mind-set. good, I was getting a little concerned for you
bielerd: I thought maybe you hated this line very, very much
Matt Bonesteel: I'm more baffled by it than mad at it.
bielerd: yeah, when last seen the Pats were easily dispatching the Niners on the road, while the Chargers were getting handled by the Fish
Matt Bonesteel: The chargers had only 10 first downs last week against the Dolphins. 10!
bielerd: Maybe it's because Miami beat the Pats in Foxboro a lot worse than they beat the Chargers at home
Matt Bonesteel: right, forgot about that. so it's the battle of teams that lost to the dolphins. NBC, feel free to use that tagline.
bielerd: The real question is, what's the deal w/Tomlinson?
Matt Bonesteel: either he's hitting the wall, or his toe is truly not right. either way, he's done diddly-poo this season.
bielerd: injuries to the toes are bad for runners
Matt Bonesteel: I know, I broke my toe earlier this year, and I'm a noted ultramarathoner.
Matt Bonesteel: it really affected my ultramarathoning.
bielerd: the only thing you run to is the border
bielerd: anyway, I'm counting on the Chargers team that destroyed the Jets the last time it was at home showing up. I'll take the Bolts
Matt Bonesteel: Belichick, i'm assuming, will have his evil twisty moustache on for this one. I'll go with the pats. something's not right with the chargers.

Game Preview

Jacksonville (+3 1/2) at Denver

Dave: Improbable, lucky, bizarre wins at home aren´t good for spreads of more than a half-point. Jaguars.
bielerd: I'm with Dave on this one. The Broncos have been hardly dominant at home
Matt Bonesteel: until that defense does something good, I'll go with their opponents. jags, as well.
bielerd: they're beating opponents by an average of two points at Invesco
Matt Bonesteel: that's well within the spread. see, it's science!
bielerd: the defense wasn't bad, actually, last week against the Bucs, but the Jags look like they might be getting their act together
