Sunday Line Chatter, Week 6
bielerd: for the benefit of readers, we are bravely forging ahead again without Dave's live input, as he had the nerve to find something better to do. but dave forged ahead and risked the wrath of his lovely new bride by sending us some comments. take it away, Dave!!
Dave: Hello again from my honeymoon in Argentina, where my lack of access to the NFL has had me feeling not in the least bit Sunday. Thus, I´m perfectly fine with last week´s 6-6-2 mark, given that it was made with scant information (and after a tour of four wineries). Not only that, I polished my fifth straight lock of the week.
But I´ve closed the information gap today, as you might notice when you read my picks, which unlike most weeks have some actual stats and potentially enlightening information. And all it took was telling my lovely new bride, ¨I´ve got to do just a little bit of work. I´ll knock it out as quickly I can¨!
I´ll be back home in time for kickoff on Sunday! Hopefully with the aforementioned lovely new bride.
Matt Bonesteel: he seems more lucid this week.
bielerd: yeah, maybe he only toured three wineries this time
Matt Bonesteel: there less of a dudley moore quality to him.
bielerd: anyway, we both totted up last week's picks and had Dave at a Line-leading 7-5-2
Matt Bonesteel: pretty shameful on both our parts, actually.
Matt Bonesteel: our not beating him.
bielerd: well, my excuse is that I had a bed feeling about last week's lines and attempted an 'opposite week' strategy. that resulted in a Line-worst 5-7-2 mark, and I'll never trust my feelings again
bielerd: hmm, bed feeling? also a bad feeling.
Matt Bonesteel: would you like to borrow my feelings?
Matt Bonesteel: can I send you a jug of love?
bielerd: I wet the bed with my picks, with my first sub-.500 week
bielerd: especially deciding to take the Bills over the Cards. what was I thinking?!
Matt Bonesteel: i held my nose right at the .500 mark after a 6-6-2 week. guess I'm pretty happy with that. my putrid pick of the lions was made less putrid by the fact that you also picked the lions.
bielerd: and we gave Dave a Lions pick, based on his bacchanalian ramblings. then he tells us he would have picked the Bears. but we're giving him one more win than he had counted for himself, so that kinda makes up for it
Matt Bonesteel: yes it does.
bielerd: plus being in Argentina kinda makes up for everything
Matt Bonesteel: yes, he's in a much better place than we are.
bielerd: but he'll be back soon, and then we'll laugh at him joining us in the No Fun Legue. Ha! we'll say. Haha!
Matt Bonesteel: the laughter will flow from us like correct picks. sporadically, at best.
bielerd: yes, let us move on to ... The Game of the Week!
Chicago (-2 1/2) at Atlanta
Dave: In my half-cocked e-mail that appeared in this space last week, I made some nonsense crack about the Lions-Bears game, and then forgot to actually include my pick. Thus, my understandably confused cohorts made the pick for me: the Lions. So, just so there´s no confusion this time, my pick of the Bears will be punctuated by a cold, resounding ka-CHUNK. That´s a Bears lock.
Matt Bonesteel: well he got that out of the way fast.
bielerd: Yeah, I guess at 5-0, he's getting cocky and thinks he can just lock the first thing that comes his way
Matt Bonesteel: don't most locks make more of a clicking sound?
bielerd: his must be a mighty heavy lock
bielerd: this is another game where I couldn't find anyone online predicting a Falcons win, which doesn't bode well for them. So I'll take the Bears, too, although Dave has to miss a lock at some point, doesn't he?
Matt Bonesteel: can't get a read on the bears. they might actually be pretty good, or just merely mediocre.
bielerd: It's still hard to believe that Kyle Orton is pretty good
bielerd: I mean, pretty good at something other than the century club
Matt Bonesteel: or neckbeard-growing contest
Matt Bonesteel: yes, he's due for a painful, DJIA-downfall. I'm gonna take the Falcons at home. The Ga. Dome actually is sold out for this one, and the Bears passing defense actually isn't very good, yardage-wise.
Matt Bonesteel: there, one person online who's taking the falcons. i stand alone.
bielerd: You stand alone alright -- because of your B.O. Zing!
