Sunday Line Chatter, Week 7: Games We Want to Watch

Indianapolis (-1 1/2) at Green Bay

bielerd: one good game (albeit a very good game) and the Colts are favored at Lambeau?
Matt Bonesteel: without their starting RB, no less.
Matt Bonesteel: packers still are extremely banged up.
larimerd2000: but I'm back on board with the Colts. The Packers are hurting, esp. on defense.
larimerd2000: In fact...
bielerd: uh oh!
Matt Bonesteel: what's that smell?
larimerd2000: I hear the steel doors closing...
bielerd: no, don't do it!!
larimerd2000: ka-CHUNK. That's a Colts lock.
larimerd2000: Road favorite didn't treat me well last week, but I'm back at it again
Matt Bonesteel: packers haven't been very good at home this season. I'll take the colts.
bielerd: I'm going to wait until the Colts string, say, two good games together, and one good road game. After all, they had NO business winning two weeks ago at Houston, or earlier at Minny. Packers

Game Preview

bielerd: speaking of Minny...

Minnesota (+3) at Chicago

Matt Bonesteel: very nice segue.
bielerd: thanks, I worked hard on it
bielerd: Vikings' Bernard Berrian will be out for revenge against the team that had the nerve not to roll a wheelbarrow full of cash to his house
Matt Bonesteel: I have lingering doubts about any team that can only put up 12 against the lions, with two of those points coming when detroit's QB decided to take a stroll into the tunnel.
bielerd: yeah, the Vikings have been a very unimpressive team this year. I should know, as a frustrated Adrian Peterson owner
bielerd: Last year, he ran for something like 225 yards and 3 TDs at Chicago. this year, it'll probably be something 64 yards and a rouge
larimerd2000: Good point, Matt. that might have swayed me toward the Bears. Tho they smell a little funny to me, too. Tho maybe that's my pick of them from last week.
Matt Bonesteel: Bears here. They're the better of two mediocrities.
larimerd2000: Bears, I guess
bielerd: Bears for me, too, although fairly unenthusiastically
larimerd2000: Wow, are we ready for some football or what?!?!

New Orleans (+3) at Carolina

Matt Bonesteel: God, the panthers. they killed me last week.
larimerd2000: And yet another game I don't know what to do with. I need coffee
Matt Bonesteel: the saints' offense, which was zesty already, getting zestier with the return of colston and shockey.
bielerd: right, so Brees will probably throw for 458 yards and 5 TDs
larimerd2000: or maybe fernet and cola. i wish i was still in argentina.
Matt Bonesteel: reggie bush's knee is somewhat ailing, tho.
larimerd2000: But the Saints haven't beaten a rug on the road, and the Panthers are 3-0 at home
bielerd: and the Panthers own the 2nd-best pass defense in the NFL
larimerd2000: I think the Panthers redeem themselves
bielerd: I agree, this division is going to be trading wins and losses all season. I'll go with the home team. Panthers
Matt Bonesteel: I went to the Charlotte Observer's site for some info, and a picture of Queen Elizabeth was on their front page, for some reason. She's saintly, so I'll take New Orleans.

Game Preview

Denver (+3) at New England

bielerd: slight quarterbacking mismatch in this one
Matt Bonesteel: Shanny is 9-3 as broncos coach vs. NE.
bielerd: and I say that as someone who will likely be starting Matt Cassel, as a Romo owner
Matt Bonesteel: you're welcome, for cassel.
larimerd2000: I sorta hate both these teams. I don't think either one is capable of beating anyone who's any good. So how does that help me when they play each other?
bielerd: and thanks for tossing Chris Johnson into the deal
Matt Bonesteel: yeah, i had to bite my lip on that one.
bielerd: let's just keep ignoring dave's question. hey, you had to do what you had to do to get shockey back on your team, right?
Matt Bonesteel: yes, yes I did.
bielerd: for the benefit of our audience (altho I'm convinced most of our audience is in our fantasy league), Matt cut Shockey when he got hurt, then traded me Cassel and Johnson to get him back (and McAllister)
Matt Bonesteel: I was under the impression that shockey was gonna be out until like week 13. so I cut him and replaced him with a rotating cast of hobos.
larimerd2000: We have an audience? Aren't we supposed to be maintaining the illusion that this is an online chat?
larimerd2000: As opposed to maintaining the illusion we have an audience, which is closer to the truth
bielerd: of course, I'm hoping Romo plays this week and I don't need Cassel. but if I do have to play him, I would hope he could do something against the league's worst pass defense
bielerd: heck, even JaMarcus Russell put up respectable numbers against the Broncs
Matt Bonesteel: but back to the task at hand. the broncos have trouble stopping pepole from completing passes. which could be a problem in today's go-go nfl.
larimerd2000: So do the Pats, who got torched by Rivers last week
Matt Bonesteel: I was just about to say that: rivers had passes of 48, 49 and 59 yards last week, plus a pass-interference in the end zone.
bielerd: agreed, the Pats D isn't any great shakes, either, but this Denver team just seems shaky to me, and I don't trust it to win at Foxboro. So I'll take yet another home team, the Patriots
Matt Bonesteel: so it basically boils down to who has the more potent qb, and that's denver, and that's why I'm taking the broncos.
larimerd2000: I'm gonna pick against the team that can't seem to stop the pass nor the runs. So that means I pick for the Pats.
