Sunday Line Chatter, Week 7: Games We'll Skip in Favor of a Romantic Day in Hempstead
Dallas (-7) at St. Louis
bielerd: there's a certain very large X factor in play here
bielerd: or maybe not in play, depending on how his pinkie looks
bielerd: Just call it Pinkie and the Brad
larimerd2000: The Cowboys are a mess this week. It's not just Romo -- and I can't understand why they'd risk playing him -- there are a lot of other injuries to ge giving all those points
bielerd: yeah, if Romo can't go then the loss of Felix Jones hurts all the more. I really wanted to see what that guy would do with a likely dose of 10 carries or so.
larimerd2000: Haslett has the Rams playing with a little heart (and Richie Incognito continuning to play without a brain)
larimerd2000: I think the Rams keep this close
Matt Bonesteel: Cowboys are a mess, but the Rams are the Rams. Sure, they won, but it's not like they tore things up. The Skins helped them out a lot last week.
bielerd: but I do think the injuries, the Cowboys' loss last week and the Rams' win last week will have Dallas in a rare state of focus. I'll take the Pokes.
bielerd: and, yeah, the Redskins kinda dominated that game
larimerd2000: fair enough. guess i should say "i hope the rams keep it close."
Matt Bonesteel: I'll go with the Cowboys, who will rally around whoever is tossing the ball. It's not like Brad Johnson is Browning Nagle or anything.
bielerd: damn, gotta jab me with Nagle! Johnson's no Dave Brown, either
Detroit (+8 1/2) at Houston
Matt Bonesteel: can we safely say that houston might be the best. 1-4 team. ever!
bielerd: as I indicated in the intro, I am sick of taking the Texans to cover, only to watch as they don't in highly annoying fashion.
bielerd: what does it say about Detroit that they are getting 8 1/2 against any kind of 1-4 team?
Matt Bonesteel: detroit's pass defense is brutal. of course, the rest of their statistical categories also are brutal.
bielerd: there is much brutality in the Motor City
Matt Bonesteel: I think that's what swings it in houston's favor. schaub-johnson are making sweet, sweet music these days. texans.
Matt Bonesteel: schaub actually released a single: "I Love My Johnson (feat. Erick Sermon and K-Ci)"
larimerd2000: I'll pick the Texans. This is the first truly bad team they've played, so they should take advantage. But man, that's a lot of points for them to cover
bielerd: he also released a movie: "My Dinner (of the Lions awful secondary) With Andre"
larimerd2000: Des, please make a pick so we can move on. I'm getting oversexed early 90s R&B songs stuck in my head
bielerd: know what? the last couple of times I wanted take a terrible team, and decided at the last second to squeeze the trigger, it worked. Detroit!
Seattle (+10 1/2) at Tampa Bay
Matt Bonesteel: seattle officially stinks.
bielerd: If Tampa Bay had any kind of offensive potency it would be an easy pick to cover this many points
larimerd2000: Tampa Bay has enough. I'll take 'em
Matt Bonesteel: seahawks were dreadful on their last trip to the east coast (vs. giants)
Matt Bonesteel: bucs are starting to play the whole "no one respects us" card.
Matt Bonesteel: now they get a chance to show the whole country on national tv.
Matt Bonesteel: no hasselbeck.
bielerd: we won't know until later today if Seneca Wallace will start for Seattle, which could make a difference, since it means keeping Charlie Frye on the bench
bielerd: I do agree with the Bucs that they are getting precious little respect
larimerd2000: Bucs are acutally 12th in scoring offense
Matt Bonesteel: all signs point to the bucs, tho that spread is lofty.
bielerd: no respect from the nation at large. Vegas is obviously showing respect with this line
Matt Bonesteel: and when you get vegas's respect, watch out! i'll go with tampa.
bielerd: I can see the Seahawks scoring like 13 points, so the question is, will the Bucs score 24 or more? not so sure about that. I'll take Seattle, and pray that Frye has a clipboard glued to his hand
Matt Bonesteel: they're averaging 23.5, so yes they can.
bielerd: the question wasn't if they can, but if they will
bielerd: 23.5 won't cut it
bielerd: if the Seahawks score 13, of course
larimerd2000: so the seahawks will score exactly 13 points
bielerd: yes. yes, they will
bielerd: actually, 23.5 would make it a push. I'm rooting for that
Tennessee (-8 1/2) at Kansas City
larimerd2000: I acutally wanted to take KC in this
bielerd: man up, dude! take KC. and JoJo
larimerd2000: based on my theory that the titans aren't made to beat anyone by more than 8
Matt Bonesteel: kc's their one home win came against the broncos. titans defense >>>>>>>>>>> broncos defense.
larimerd2000: then i noted that the titans have actually beaten 3 of 5 teams by more than 8
larimerd2000: and, of course, the chiefs' best player is suspended and their best receiver doesn't want to play for them.
larimerd2000: so needless to say, I'm not going to take the Chiefs.
bielerd: and, of course, who should step back under center but Brodie Croyle. most teams don't come out of a bye week worse, but KC did
Matt Bonesteel: I can't take the chiefs. titans.
bielerd: This was close to being my lock, also, but I was a bit leery about taking the Titans to cover so many points. However, i would like to end our picks on a nice note of togetherness, so I ,too, will take Tennessee
Matt Bonesteel: kumbaya, anyone?
bielerd: we're holding cyber hands
bielerd: and roasting cyber marshmallows
larimerd2000: And next week, we'll return to discuss how I went 4-10
bielerd: and the rest of us went 3-11
Matt Bonesteel: Yeah, I'll be holding my cyber nose.
