Sunday Line Chatter, Week 8: Games We Might Want to Watch
Cardinals (+4) at Panthers
Matt Bonesteel: There's agonizing over whether your stud fantasy player is gonna play. And then there's agonizing over it while on vacation in Europe.
bielerd: yeah, that must be pure torture. being in Europe and all
Matt Bonesteel: Actually, I guess it seems as if Boldin is gonna play. Whether he's effective....
larimerd2000: I, for one, hope he doesn't. I gots to beat Bonesy
Matt Bonesteel: and i have to beat larimer to halt my rather smelly play of late.
bielerd: ooh, a Sunday Line tete-a-tete! of course, I already beat Bonesy
Matt Bonesteel: stupid jets can't keep their ineligible receivers from going downfield. i would have won if not for that.
bielerd: speaking of getting beat, the Cards have dropped their past two road games by a combined 28 points.
larimerd2000: Anyway, as I indicated earlier, I've wasted momentum of my 5-0 start in locks of the week by being lured by the siren song of road favorites.
bielerd: and your point is...?
larimerd2000: But mama, mama, I'm coming home
Matt Bonesteel: ooh, ozzy-lock reference.
bielerd: that is one crazy train of thought
Matt Bonesteel: let's hope you're not flying snowblind, or reading too much mr. crowley.
larimerd2000: There's nothing more comforting to this tout than the West Coast team going East, and there's no team worse in the East than the Cards. I'm going off the rails for the Panthers. Ka-CHUNK. That's a Panthers lock,
bielerd: way to bark at the moon
Matt Bonesteel: the ka-CHUNK was the sound of larimer biting the head off a live bat.
bielerd: let's just hope he's shedding no more tears about losing a lock
larimerd2000: Finished with road favorites cuz they couldn't help me with my mind
Matt Bonesteel: i'll also go with the panthers, if only to put a stop to this before we reference every song in the Ozzy/Sabbath discography.
Matt Bonesteel: even that song with Lita Ford (or was that no more tears?)
bielerd: no one likes the randy rhoads team here. Panthers
larimerd2000: Close Your Eyes Forever
Matt Bonesteel: ah, right.
larimerd2000: Heaven is in my lock of the week and it's waiting here for you, readers
Bills (-1 1/2) at Dolphins
bielerd: Buffalo getting some points here. hmmm...
Matt Bonesteel: have teams figured out yet that the wildcat is merely the option with a cooler name?
bielerd: I thought it was the single-wing.
larimerd2000: The Ravens did last week
larimerd2000: Are the Bills the Redskins of the AFC?
Matt Bonesteel: does their coach also know how to skin a coyote?
bielerd: I think Ralph Wilson may have height advantage over Dan Snyder
bielerd: despite being, like, 1006
bielerd: 106
Matt Bonesteel: the bills' stadium also is easier to reach for most people in the DC area than FedEx.
larimerd2000: no, he just celebrated his 1006th birthday
bielerd: true, he regaled the crowd with his memories of the Battle of Hastings
larimerd2000: the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to him in his native Aramaic
bielerd: we just don't like to talk football, do we?
larimerd2000: Quick, Matt, what's funnier: "Aramaic" or "Battle of Hastings"?
Matt Bonesteel: Aramaic.
bielerd: d'oh!
larimerd2000: Whew. I thought Des brought it with such a mathematically accurate reference
bielerd: Matt's just trying to soften you up before your titanic fantasy clash
bielerd: and by titanic, I mean the way your fantasy team has resembled that ship, Dave
larimerd2000: My terrible trading will go on. Anyway, I think the Bills have to lose sometime, but not just yet. I'll take 'em.
bielerd: and I'm still not completely convinced that the Bills should be a 6-1 team, so by that impenetrable logic, I'll take Miami
Matt Bonesteel: dolphins get a top 10 defense for the second straight game. we saw how well it went last week (well, you all did). bills.
larimerd2000: I vowed not to lock road favorites. I can't seem to swear off them entirely
Rams (+7) at Patriots
larimerd2000: No one's got much to say about this one, do they?
Matt Bonesteel: i'm trying to figure out either team.
bielerd: I was looking up names of obscure NE former RBs. So who are the Pats starting at running back this week, Leonard Rusell?
bielerd: how about that?!
larimerd2000: They'll have to call plays in his native Aramaic. Hey-oh!
bielerd: misspelled his not-so-obscure name, tho. Russell, duh
bielerd: unlike Cassel, which has two S's but only one L
bielerd: insert joke about Cassel accounting for plenty of Ls here
Matt Bonesteel: Actually, they're starting Vagas Ferguson (thank you pro-football-reference.com)
bielerd: and they signed Doug Flutie for depth, and Fluite Flakes
larimerd2000: I think it's time to make a pick. Patriots. That is all.
bielerd: The Rams have been playing much better on defense since Haslett became head coach, which makes no sense whatsoever since he already was the defensive coordinator
Matt Bonesteel: Too many points, too many injuries for NE. Too much momentum on the Rams' side, so I'll take them.
bielerd: I agree. the Rams have shown plenty of esprit de corps, so I'll take the points
Browns (+7) at Jaguars
larimerd2000: I locked the Texans against the Jags earlier this season simply because I didn't think the Jags could cover by 7 or more. It worked.
Matt Bonesteel: yeah, but the browns' offense is awful.
bielerd: so I've gone from being very interested in whatever was ailing Kellen Winslow to not wanting to hear one more thing about the whole situation
Matt Bonesteel: shockingly, it's not getting much play over here.
larimerd2000: But Jacksonville's finally got their starting offensive line back, and the Browns look on the verge of falling apart. Could I pick a push?
bielerd: it apparently didn't involve coconut-sized anything, so I'm out
larimerd2000: I think Jacksonville did pretty well to get to the bye 3-3, and now it's a lot healthier. To pick up on Des's comments, I think their margins of victory will, um, swell. Gimme the Jags.
Matt Bonesteel: Browns 4-2 ATS, but their ATS win last week was kind of given to them by the Redskins, no?
bielerd: I dunno, the Jags have gotten a bye to get their O-line back a bit, and the Browns are coming off a very physical game against the Redsksins in which Derek Anderson looked out of sync with everyone. Winslow is a huge distraction, Braylon is making up any excuse he can think of for just not being very good this season...
bielerd: ... and, hey, what is that? it appears to be some out-of-towners wondering what this strange music is, this percussive, call-and-response, free-form genre specific to the Mid-Atlantic region? And that chorus: Lock it! Lock it!
bielerd: gimme the Jags to easily cover 7
Matt Bonesteel: As I said, the Browns' offense is brutal, and with Winslow out or whatever his status it only should get worse. Plus, their run defense is equally bad, and the jags are getting their o-line back and have two good RBs. So, Jags.
