Sunday Line Chatter, Week 8: Games We'll Skip in Favor of Talking to Matt Millen About a 'Hunting Trip'

Redskins (-7 1/2) at Lions

Matt Bonesteel: Achtung! Achtung! Ein Verschluss ist bevorstehend!
bielerd: was?
larimerd2000: Is that Aramaic?
Matt Bonesteel: Die Indianer sind gut. Die Löwen sind schlecht. So verriegele ich die Indianer.
bielerd: I think it was an aromatic attempt at a lock
Matt Bonesteel: That's a Redskins lock. In German. Ker-CHUNKENSTASSEL!
larimerd2000: Bravo, Herr Bonesteel. Bravo.
Matt Bonesteel: at least that's what babelfish told me.
bielerd: that Matt, what a total wiener. get it, wiener? someone from Vienna? Ha! Nailed him, American-style.
bielerd: So you think the Redskins are good and the Lions are terrible, right?
Matt Bonesteel: Ja.
larimerd2000: Des wants a dissenting opinion, and I aims to please. The Redskins have had seven chances to win by more than seven and haven't done it yet. So on principle I can't pick them to win by 8 on the road. Lions.
bielerd: Well, I hate to agree with a dissenting opinion, but I do. The Redskins just don't seem cut out to beat teams by a lot. Lions
bielerd: If the Lions are smart (and I'm not saying they are) they'll throw to Calvin Johnson about 20 times. That guy is scary
bielerd: Not sure a lock has been the only vote for a particular side before
larimerd2000: It was in week 1 at least when i took the bills over the seahawks
bielerd: and that worked out alright. for you. boo.

Game Preview

Chiefs (+13 1/2) at Jets

larimerd2000: This is how bad the Chiefs are perceived to be: essentially a two-TD dog to a team that looked awful last week.
larimerd2000: And man, that Jets-Raiders game looked awful. Do tell, Des
bielerd: @$%&#$&$#*%@*%@*^$^#@%^#@%^#!
Matt Bonesteel: Now that's some fine Aramaic.
bielerd: I know, I really want to take the Chiefs, as I usually take the team getting the most points in any week, but lord, they are putrid
larimerd2000: NY lost to a team that committed nine penalties in the first quarter alone.
bielerd: can we talk about this week's game?
larimerd2000: I mean, PEEE-EWWWWW
Matt Bonesteel: don't forget about the crucial Herm's Revenge factor.
Matt Bonesteel: It's like Montezuma's Revenge, but only with more vomiting.
bielerd: Yeah, that worked great in Week 17 last year, when Herm's Chiefs visitied the Jets, lost in overtime and cost the Jets a shot at Darren McFadden
bielerd: instead the Jets drafted that workout warrior (i.e., non-football player) Vernon Gholston
bielerd: I think Favre may be going through some arm troubles, didn't look like he had his fastball in Oakland, and I think the Jets will want to play things close to the vest and just win this one without doing anything too fancy, which ordinarily would lead me to take the heavy underdog
Matt Bonesteel: But weren't people saying that when they played the Cardinals?
Matt Bonesteel: and they crushed them.
bielerd: no, people weren't saying that
Matt Bonesteel: Well, Favre looked banged up going into the Arizona game.
larimerd2000: I'm torn. If only one team has covered a double-digit spread all season, how can I expect the Jets to? And yet, the Chiefs look so completely helpless right now.
larimerd2000: Chiefs have two rookie CBs going against Favre. And they're starting Tyler Freaking Thigpen, for crow's sake
Matt Bonesteel: ooh, didn't know that about thiggy. I'll take the Jets.
Matt Bonesteel: tho cotchery is hurting, so the CB thing might not be as crucial.
larimerd2000: And LJ's benched again, if you hadn't heard, moving up my trade for him on the list of worst fantasy trades of all time.
bielerd: that was a terrible trade for you. care to make another?
larimerd2000: I'll listen. Anyway, I'm gonna hold my nose and take the Chiefs on a similar principle I took the Lions.
bielerd: I forgot to mention that as well, the Jets are dinged up at WR, Coles might not play w/a concussion. again, I really want to take the Chiefs, but I just can't see them cracking double digits on the scoreboard against an angry Jets squad. Plus, the Jets get preseason sensation David Clowney (remember him?) back. I'll take the Jets

Game Preview

Seahawks (+5) at 49ers

Matt Bonesteel: I have family that just arrived, so I'm gonna go with the lightning-round answers. Niners for me.
larimerd2000: Yeah, we're gabbing awfully long here. I like the 49ers, mostly b/c their boy owner Jed York sad they're not gonna get "out-intensitied" anymore.
Matt Bonesteel: Emmitt Smith must be giving him pointers.
bielerd: Firing the coach has worked for one out of two teams so far, and they were both much worse than the 49ers. So I'll take San Fran as well, and hope that my desperation fantasy pickup, Josh Morgan, has a big game
bielerd: Was Jed wearing overalls when he said that?

Game Preview

Bengals (+9 1/2) at Texans

bielerd: I said it last week, and I'll say it again: Until the Texans prove they can actually cover spreads, I'll keep picking against them.
larimerd2000: Too many points or too much Ryan Fitzpatrick? Hmmm....
Matt Bonesteel: Bengals.
bielerd: Ocho has picked up his yapping and for once may be picking up his game
larimerd2000: I say too many points. Bengals, and more consensus.

Game Preview

Raiders (+7) at Ravens

Matt Bonesteel: West Coast team playing East Coast early. And a bad West Coast team to boot. Raiders.
Matt Bonesteel: I mean, Ravens!
Matt Bonesteel: Auf Wiedersehen, Freunde
bielerd: I'm not crazy about the Ravens, but I'm less crazy about the Raiders, and McGahee looked pretty spry last week. Ravens
larimerd2000: I like the Ravens as well. They circle the wagons pretty well. And they'll beat up JaMarcus
bielerd: more consensus!
larimerd2000: I'll have to review, but this could be our most consensus-y week ever
