Sunday Line Chatter, Week 8

Matt Bonesteel: Hallo von Österreich!
bielerd: Ich bin ein Weiner
larimerd2000: guten morgen! Are those words?
Matt Bonesteel: That translates "Hello from the nation in which I've had beer for all three daily meals"
bielerd: yeah, but how many of those were Miller Chills?
Matt Bonesteel: We just returned from sightseeing in Vienna (my sis lives in the Vienna, Va., of Vienna, Austria). We had this stuff called Schicher Sturm, which is this fermented grape juice that they only serve in the autumn. So I'm feeling pretty fine.
bielerd: Last week I went 9-5, boney went, um, 4-10, dave went 8-6
Matt Bonesteel: Really, 4-10?
larimerd2000: Huh. I thought you won 10 and I won nine. Oh well.
larimerd2000: no, actually, i went 9-5
bielerd: oh, whoops. I had the Giants not covering, when of course they did, barely. OK, every gets bumped up one win
Matt Bonesteel: I hit my lock, at least.
larimerd2000: and i, once again, did not. i have to swear off locking a road favorite this week.
bielerd: Yes, well done, Matt. In a true indication of just how crazy this mixed-up, topsy-turvy, up-is-down world is, Dave and I did much better on picks but missed out locks, while you were terrible but hit yours. On a highly improbable safety with 5 minutes left, but you hit it.
Matt Bonesteel: I'm literally flying in the dark over here. No news whatsoever, except for players on my fantasy team. My sister doesn't even have a freaking TV, for f's sake!
Matt Bonesteel: I saw exactly one highlight from last Sunday on CNN, a TD pass from Aaron Rodgers. That was the highlight they chose to show all of Europe. I have, however, seen an obscene amount of snooker.
larimerd2000: Yes, I'm familiar with that from Argentina. Only replace snooker with endless speculation of the roster selections for the national soccer team
bielerd: and when I was in Spain earlier this year, I was up late one night and saw an obscene amount of... well, let's just say it wasn't for kids
larimerd2000: So is it time to dive in with the game of the week?
Matt Bonesteel: oh right. our Prague hotel room had a porno channel. Jen couldn't get enough.
bielerd: yes, on that note, the game of the week!

Giants (+2 1/2) at Steelers

Matt Bonesteel: steelers are coming off a bye, ja?
bielerd: well, almost. they played the Bengals last week.
bielerd: Facing Ryan Fitzpatrick is pretty close to getting the day off
Matt Bonesteel: I'm going to be comically uninformed this week. which probably will help my steadily declining record.
bielerd: Willie Parker did have the day off, and it remains to be seen if he returns this week
Matt Bonesteel: how will this game affect, say, the euro?
larimerd2000: I give the Steelers a ton of credit. Every year, it seems, they beat every team they should beat.
Matt Bonesteel: except for last year in the playoffs.
bielerd: That is one solid program they have there. even the introduction of a cheesy mascot hasn't derailed things.
larimerd2000: But I don't think they should beat the Giants. I like NY's pass rush against that line. I think this could be a bit like the Steelers-Eagles game, which didn't go well for BigBen. I take the Giants.
Matt Bonesteel: Burress has a neck injury, I am informed by rotoworld.com
bielerd: So this game features two Super Bowl-winning QBs, and one WR not exactly beloved by either fan base
Matt Bonesteel: santonio holmes busted for weed, says the same web site. so WRs doing well for both.
Matt Bonesteel: he "turned over three marijuana cigars." I'm guessing they were merely White Owls.
Matt Bonesteel: I'll go with the more recent super bowl winner--G-Men.
bielerd: well, that's a pain in the neck for Steelers. get it? because Burress... ah, never mind.
bielerd: I'm in agreement w/ Dave about the pass rush, and not so much w/ Matt's exceedingly facile analysis. Plus, the Giants should be able to grind down the Steelers D w/their endless assortment of talented backs. Giants -- a road underdog -- in a sweep.

"for f's sake!"

YES!

Domestic abuser and pot-smoker Holmes is the Steelers' current version of the me-first ghetto attitude of one Plexico Burress.

Talent or no, my guess is that Holmes is not long for this team -- they aren't going to put up with his crap any more than they did Burress.

And, hey, no trash-talking about Steely McBeam. He may well be the team's outreach to the gay community, and we shouldn't be politically incorrect about it.

My only beef is, for a town full of Poles and Slavs and Italians and African Americans, having a Mc-Whatever for a mascot sems somewhat odd. He should be renamed "Tom Touchdownski" or "Steel City Diddy" immediately.

I think this comes down to the QBs. Reliable, veteran Roethlisberger holding steady against the Giants pass rush, or the awkward, gangly young guy running for his life vs. James Harrison, Lamar Woodley, Farrior, etc? Huge advantage: Steelers.

Plaxico's revenge could be a factor, but I think it matters less since the rest of the team hates his guts.

This blog and it's lame attempts at humor are even more lame.

Fire thes guys and fins some people who know football and want to talk about that without all the sophomoric attempts at comedy.

Trippin, You are obviously not from the 'Burgh, or you'd know it's McBeam because of all the Irish Mc's and O'everythings in town. I'm a Pitsburgh native Mc myself, and Rooney, gee, another Irish name. Though I perhaps wish that Steely wasn't a Mc.

As for the matchup, I think if the Steelers O-line steps up, they will pull out a W, despite continuing absences of starters and no Holmes.
