Game Day Chatter, Week 12: Intro
Matt Bonesteel: This chat is fun enough. But this chat combined with Vinny Cerrato's radio show is transcendent.
bielerd: oh, jeez. I've never listened to that show but I imagine it's enthralling
larimerd2000: as for me, i wasn't aware there was "classic volleyball" on espn. and it's not that movie staring c. thomas howell.
Matt Bonesteel: is it men's volleyball or women's?
larimerd2000: men's. beach. volleyball.
bielerd: I have newschannel 8 on, altho I'll have to switch it once they repeat the hour or half-hour of the program. got some wintry weather out there, folks
Matt Bonesteel: so it's "classic"? what's it from, 2005?
Matt Bonesteel: I really, truly miss NewsChannel 8 now that I have DirecTV.
bielerd: yeah, I don't know why directv doesn't carry it, and it's weather channel is lame, too.
bielerd: of course, I'm not getting the NFL network
Matt Bonesteel: indeed it is. i want my local forecast! you're also not getting the glory that is the NHL Network.
larimerd2000: slightly longer ago. remember those wild, uninhibited times when people wore visors upside down?
bielerd: is Karch involved? It's not men's volleyball unless Karch is involved
bielerd: I can pronounce Karch's last name, but I'm not going to try to spell it
Matt Bonesteel: I think it's Karachi.
larimerd2000: anyhoo, my picks stunk last week--5-11, tho I did hit my lock
Matt Bonesteel: We all got screwed by the officials in the Steelers-Chargers game, which would have put me at .500, again. Instead, I went 7-9.
Matt Bonesteel: And my glorious lock streak came to an untimely end when the Colts couldn't keep those pesky Texans at bay.
bielerd: yeah, that kept from surfacing above water for the week, instead I went 8-8. and I missed my lock for the fourth time in five weeks, putting me at a weak 6-5 for the year
larimerd2000: Ah. memories. Now, care to make some new ones with our game of the week?
bielerd: eh, I'm not doing anything better at the moment
Jets (+5 1/2) at Titans
Matt Bonesteel: I know the Titans are unbeaten and all, but 5 1/2?
bielerd: I was leaning toward the Jets, but I may have to switch to the Titans after learning that Jeff Fisher parachuted into a team practice this week with the 101st airborne
Matt Bonesteel: did he really do that?
bielerd: yeah. how cool is that?
Matt Bonesteel: very cool. he was on the Cowherd show yesterday (yeah, I listen to the all the stimulating radio shows). seems like he has his stuff together.
larimerd2000: That's awesome. There's a dude who's earned his stache
Matt Bonesteel: Unlike Rod Marinelli, who is losing his mind (more on that later, with my lock).
bielerd: according to players, he pointed out how one of the airborne members is missing a leg, and fisher used the dramatic moment to instill a lesson about overcoming obstacles. like a 5 1/2-point spread
Matt Bonesteel: gosh, how can I not pick the Titans now? I was all over the Jets. Now?
bielerd: It's just an obstacle we're going to have to overcome. I really could see Favre throwing a few picks in this game and the Titans covering easily, but...
larimerd2000: The Jets are playing their best right now, and they have balance. Their only real weak spot appears to be pass defense
Matt Bonesteel: no...mustn't....change...pick....and....break....cardinal....rule....of....picking....nfl....games............jets!
larimerd2000: Which Kerry Collins has shown he can beat....
Matt Bonesteel: Yah, Kerry Collins suddenly looks like a much more grizzled Drew Brees out there.
bielerd: Collins has looked very solid the past few games. but so have the Jets, and it does seem like a lot of points
bielerd: I mean, this isn't an X's & O's analysis, but the closer we get to the end of the season, presumably the closer we get to the Titans losing a game, right?
Matt Bonesteel: After this, they have the Lions, Browns and Texans. So this is their best chance to lose in a while.
bielerd: Alright, enough already, I'll follow up on my savvy pick of the Steelers last night and take the Jets.
larimerd2000: i don't see this game not being close. i'd like to see the undefeated titans play the winless lions on thanksgiving, but that could happen with the jets covering. so i'll take the jets
