New York Giants at Philadelphia, Week 10
A Giants win here would give them a 3-0 record in the NFC East and an almost clear path to the division title. An Eagles loss would put them at 0-3 in the division and basically eliminate all hope for anything but the wild card. So yeah, Philadelphia is thinking this is a must-win game.
"It's almost a statement game, where we can go out there and prove some things to ourselves and other people -- that we are a team to be reckoned with," said Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, whose team has won three straight, scoring at least 26 points in each game.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning is 3-1 in his visits to Philadelphia, and never has lost in his three starts there (he played but didn't start the 2004 season opener in Philadelphia, his first game as a pro). His most memorable game probably was in 2006, when he threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns, but also was sacked eight times in a 30-24 Giants win.
And gone are the days of Manning as Little Boy Lost. Since Nov. 25 of last season, when he threw three interceptions that were returned for touchdowns against the Vikings, Manning has led the Giants to a 14-3 record, including a Super Bowl title. Three of Manning's five interceptions came in one game, when the Giants suffered their only loss to the Browns.
Perhaps much of Manning's relative improvement has come from the fact that the Giants have the NFL's second-ranked rushing attack at 162.6 yards per game. The brutish Brandon Jacobs is simply running over defenders at the moment, and Derrick Ward provides a nice change of pace.
The Giants have the ball for an average of 33 minutes 27 seconds per game, which is tops in the NFC and second in the NFL to the Ravens.
Said Eagles safety Brian Dawkins of Jacobs "He's a beast. He knows it. ..... You know you have to bring your lunch with you. You have to bring everything that you have against him."
