Sunday Line Chatter, Week 11: Intro
Des: I'm not sure what everyone's record is, but I know that, once again, yo guys did much better than me
Dave: well all right! i need to confirm my record from last week, but i think 10-4. unless someone's already done that
Des: My prognosticatory skills are not mad at the moment
Matt: I went a white-hot 10-4, bringing my season mark to 69-69-5. Wooooooooooo! .500!
Des: eh, .500's overrated
Matt: spoken like someone who's gone 9-19 over his past two weeks.
Des: I'm just relieved I ended a three-game lock-losing streak when Janikowksi doinked a 58-yard field goal attempt off the crossbar with 9 seconds left
Matt: I believe my pick of the Patriots gave me seven straight on locks.
Dave: And I went 10-4 to go to -- trumpet herald, please -- 80-58-5. And I'm up to 7-2-1 on my locks. Though I have spotted you guys the Thursday night game this week
Des: Speaking of the Pats, I'm also relieved that the Jets pulled that game out last night. That one was tough on the ol' ticker
Matt: ah yes. guess that means I'm officially over .500 for the first time, um, ever.
Des: And Gang Green is in first place in the AFC East for the first time in, like, forever. But, I mean, giving up that TD w/1 second left? I almost broke something. And I was at work!
Matt: you should have thrown something through a higher-up's window. hilarity would have ensued.
Des: And since we're discussing heated, intense, just-plain-don't-like-each-other, and other cliche-ridden NFL rivalries, here's our Game of the Week!
Dallas (-1 1/2) at Washington
Matt: I see via the ol' ESPN ticker that Portis is unlikely to play.
Dave: I was baffled by this line at first, but as the week's gone on and Portis hasn't gotten any better it's starting to tempt me
Matt: and the cowboys are now pretty much completely healthy, right?
Des: Yes, it was surprising to see Dallas, which has looked feeble of late, favored, but it is getting Romo back
Dave: Still no Felix Jones
Dave: likely, anyway
Des: And still no Pacman Jones
Matt: but Jerry Jones. he's still there.
Des: no Too Tall Janes, either
Matt: or Too Tall Jones.
Des: or Jane, His Wife
Matt: it would rock if they had multiple female players, all of them "too tall," and all of them named Jane. I bet people would write stories about them in Reader's Digest.
Des: Anyway, is the possible loss of Portis such a huge factor? I remember Betts doing pretty well when he had a chance to play
Dave: Then again, healthy or not, Dallas's defense still stinks. I guess Terence "Jones" Newman is back, but still
Matt: But Betts is coming off his own injury.
Matt: It could be the Shaun Alexander and Rock Cartwright Show.
Des: Yikes, maybe Dallas should be favored. I think Betts will play, tho
Dave: It was the Redskins who exposed the Cowboys in Week 4. Even T. "Jones" O. said so
Matt: Those Rally Rags are really gonna pep up the crowd, tho. I can't believe no one's ever thought of that before.
Des: That is a brilliant new innovation by the Redskins' staff. Can't believe they didn't call them Horrible Hankies, tho
Dave: That's true. What an idea! Towels would have been Terrible. Rags rock!
Dave: Ok, time to make a pick. I think we're all stalling
Matt: But they're only giving out 50,000 of them. What are the 40,000 Cowboys fans in attendance going to wave?
Des: Sinister Serviettes?
Matt: Perhaps they'll be waving goodbye after the Cowboys win this one, which is what I see happening. Dallas.
Des: I was dismayed at the line, because I was thinking that the return of Romo would energize Dallas enough for the win, but I now I could get points w/a home team. Ah, the heck with it. Dallas
Dave: I sorta hate to pick the Cowboys in this one, b/c I think they're really not all that good. But they're more desperate. And the Redskins RBs need a week to get better. But you guys both took Dallas, and the home team's getting points and no one's buying. You know what? Redskins
Des: there you go, that's the kind of pick that could pad your lead. or shrink it.
