Sunday Line Chatter, Week 15: Games We'll Skip in Favor of "Running" for Senator in Illinois

Lions (+17) at Colts

Matt Bonesteel: This giant line does not scare me, because MY WILL IS OUTSTANDING.
bielerd: how about your shovel? or is it your pick?
Matt Bonesteel: both my shovel and pick are SHARP.
larimerd2000: Can you use that line against the Lions?
bielerd: Why not? Everyone else uses Marinelli against the Lions
Matt Bonesteel: The Lions are starting a rusty Dan Orlovsky.
bielerd: I could go for a rusty Orlovsky
larimerd2000: Yeah, that's got vermouth in it, doesn't it?
bielerd: it'll cost you two points on a Breathalyzer, though
larimerd2000: Are you building to something, Boney?
bielerd: yeah, get on with it
Matt Bonesteel: The Colts unmerciful pounding of another bad team last week has me thinking a repeat is in order. Which is why I'm locking the Colts and their rather garish 17 points.
larimerd2000: There it is! I brashly took three favorites of more than 13 points last week, and went 3-0. So I don't know why I'm balking at this line against the friggin' Lions
bielerd: [SIGH] This is either the biggest spread so far this season or darn close to it. Which means that the educated gambler almost has to take the underdog. But -- ugh!! -- the Lions look so bad.
bielerd: Dave, you take Detroit, someone has to.
bielerd: for what it's worth, two of the only three teams to start 0-13 win game No. 14.
Matt Bonesteel: I will point out that the Lions are trotting out a QB who is less than six weeks into his recovery from two fractures and a torn ligament in his right thumb. So the Lions, THE LIONS, are trotting out a QB who isn't 100 percent.
Matt Bonesteel: On the road, too.
bielerd: but I have the Lions pegged to win next week at home against New Orleans. Mark my words, I may very, very well lock the Lions in that one. For this week, however, I will assume the Lions stay terrible and take the Colts. I can't see Detroit scoring more than 13 and I can't see Indy scoring less than 30.
larimerd2000: The Colts are at least as good as the Eagles, whom I took giving 14 at home to an opponent that's not this bad. And yet....
bielerd: Dave, what is Joe Strummer telling you to do?
Matt Bonesteel: You can crush us, you can bruise us, you can even shoot us, but....?
larimerd2000: Go straight to hell, boys! Lions!
bielerd: fine, good for you, taking Det

Seahawks (-2 1/2) at Rams

bielerd: okay, time to go into lightning-round mode.
larimerd2000: These games deserve nothing more. I would rather watch Paula Deen than this game. Seahawks.
Matt Bonesteel: just an awful game. seahawks have won seven straight over rams. good enough for me. seahawks.
bielerd: I like what I've seen of Seneca Wallace in place of Matt Hasselbeck. He has 8 TD passes and only 1 pick this season. Seahawks
bielerd: And, unlike Hasselbeck, Wallace can run

Packers (-2 1/2) at Jaguars

larimerd2000: The Packers have the faintest playoff hopes of any team with faint playoff hopes, I believe. And the Jaguars are completely and totally paws-up.
Matt Bonesteel: Jags have covered once in their past seven games. That's worse than the Lions over that stretch (and the Jags one cover was against the Lions). Packers.
bielerd: I wrote in this week's Slant that the Jags have a bunch of guys names Ike Witt. I stand by that assessment. I darn near locked the Packers, but then I remembered Dave's fatwa against locking road favorites. Still, I will take Green Bay with no hesitation
larimerd2000: Jags horrible at home, Packer merely bad on the road. Packers

Chargers (-5) at Chiefs

Matt Bonesteel: Five points. On the road. With Norv Turner as their coach? No thank you. Chiefs.
larimerd2000: Chargers have been a complete jerk of a team, but they finally sound humbled. The scare against the Chiefs a few weeks back was one of those wake-up calls, albeit waaaay too late. What the heck, I'll take the complete jerk of a team
bielerd: Tony Gonzalez is having a very impressive season. Unlike, say, Norv Turner. Philip Rivers is trying to become the first Chargers QB w/ back-to-back wins at Arrowhead since Dan Fouts in 1980 and '81. I say he doesn't do it. Chiefs, please
