Sunday Line Playoff Chatter, Take 4: Eagles at Vikings
Philadelphia (-3) at Minnesota
Des: speaking of teams that are having trouble selling out a rare home playoff game
Dave: Yeah, that's even weirder than the Cards. I mean, they love the Vikings up there!
Dave: Or loved them. Maybe they hate Zygi Wulf, I dunno
Des: maybe they realize what every other NFL observer seems to have: That the Eagles are very likely to win
Des: but Jared Allen's video plea to the fans to buy tickets does seem a little pathetic
Matt: I was in the Minny airport during the Giants game last Sunday. 79 percent of eyes were coldly transfixed on the game. They even announced the final score before we took off, because Northwest had the gall to schedule takeoff at around 4 p.m.
Dave: The Eagles are playing great, and deserve to be favored. But the Vikings are playing pretty well, too.
Matt: I still can't seem to trust Tarvaris Jackson.
Des: no, he isn't much better than a rookie
Matt: Yep, I think I trust Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco more.
Dave: Against that Eagles' pursuit, maybe you shouldn't. But I think the Vikes have figured out how to use him a lot more effectively.
Des: might have something to do with the fact that Ryan and Flacco never lost their jobs to Gus Frerotte at any point this season
Matt: Eagles def. have more playoff experience, if that matters for anything.
Dave: Vikings have won 5 of 6, but I think people would think better of them if they didn't have to sweat out a win vs. the Giants' backups
Matt: Yeah, but look who those wins were against: Jags (stink), Bears (stinky), Lions (historically stinky), Cardinals (playing their stinkiest of the season) and the G-Men (with their stinky backups)
Des: the only question is, between Andy Reid's play-calling tendencies and Minny's stout rush D, will Philly throw the ball 75 percent of the time, or more?
Dave: I'm torn between being nervous at taking four favorites, and four road teams (I'm separating those categories, not grouping them into one, to avoid being chastised by Matt again) and between picking the Vikings just to take one home team
larimerd2000: I'm not thrilled with either option
Matt: They lost at home to the best team they faced (I'm calling them better than the Giants' backups), the Falcons, another run-heavy team, and a team that doesn't usually play well on the road.
Des: yeah, the Vikings barely won a pretty bad division. and while I didn't hold that against the Cardinals, Minny has what I think will be a much tougher foe on its hands. Eagles
Matt: I gotta go with the Eagles. I like they way they handled things down the stretch, and don't think they're gonna lose to a team that probably doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs.
Dave: Ah, heck, I'll take all four favorites. Eagles.
Des: gutsy move
Dave: Wow, Matt sorta harsh on the Vikings.
Des: just more motivation for them, eh?
