What Would Wilbon Do?

Ready to Advise Again

In the first week of "What Would Wilbon Do?" Mike advised a reader to skip a sporting event to see U2 at Soldier Field. He also dabbled in Date Lab territory to advise a woman whose boyfriend was not that into football.

Where will he go this week? That's up to you. Submit questions for Wilbon below -- no (reasonable) subject is off limits.

An Anti-Football Boyfriend?

Okay, here we go with "What Would Wilbon Do?" Our first foray into the Advice Columnist Business...participate at your own risk!

KDATKC: I've been dating this guy a few months...and I'm super-excited about football season. He says to me, "I don't really watch that much football." I am appalled and feel like this is grounds for termination of this relationship. What do you think?

Wow, this guy gets a woman who wants to watch football and the coolness of it is totally lost on him? Hmmm, you sound plenty aggravated, but before you pancake this guy, try something. Watch Week 1 football, whether it's by yourself or with your usual crew, and check in with him at halftime or during a commercial break. See how you feel. If you're still somewhere between annoyed and completely enraged, you've got a real problem and perhaps you should just call it off before it all boils over. But if you like the time apart -- doesn't that sound like a guy's perspective? -- then maybe it suggests you two don't need to do the same things to have a relationship. It's quite possible the next football game I watch with my wife will be the first and we've been married 12 years.

TDGOBUX: Mike, which would you attend? U2 concert at Soldier Field (Club seats) or OSU/USC game?

Okay, I have to admit I'm not a U2 guy. But I do know from friends who love U2 that they give great concerts and the newly renovated Soldier Field is a wonderful venue. If you had seats at the Notre Dame-USC game in South Bend (Oct. 17), I'd say go for it because there's no better place to see a college football game in America. But it's only September. I'd probably have a picnic on the lake just outside Soldier Field, TiVo the game and attend the concert.

Counsel From the Columnist

Should you buy season tickets to the Caps or the Redskins?

What should you wear to impress a first date?

The manpurse: fashion faux pas?

Should you feel safe buying ballpark sushi?

If you wonder about things like this, ask Mike -- he's sort of a cross between Miss Manners and Archie Manning.

Fire away in the comments section below, and Wilbon will respond to the best questions each week.
