In Wilbon's World

The Wilbon Index: Top NFL Teams

Every week, I'll rate and comment on my personal top 5 or top 10 in one or two categories. And the staff will add a poll so you can rate them, too. Here's the NFL:

1) Giants - Their weakness was supposed to be unproven receivers...but Steve Smith and Mario Manningham have made that a lie. They've already beaten two division opponents, including the Cowboys in their new playpen.

2) Ravens - The defense might not mash you every down, but as the Chargers found out the hard way, Ray Lewis & Crew can still come up with the decisive plays when necessary. And Joe Flacco's development in his second year as the starting QB gives the Ravens a dimension only they could have expected coming into the season.

3) Vikings - Adrian Peterson is a beast. As long as Brett Favre realizes this and doesn't start throwing it up for grabs the Vikings will be a force.

4) Saints - We know Drew Brees is great but we'll have to see more of the Saints defense before New Orleans scoots any higher in this index.

5) Falcons - Big date in New England this weekend...Best thing about the Falcons is that they're 2-0 and haven't had a great game yet.

6) Jets - It's fair to wonder how long any rookie, in this case Mark Sanchez, can go before the league starts to figure him out...On the other hand, nobody has figured out Matt Ryan in Atlanta yet.

7) Colts - New head coach or not, there are enough people in Colts uniforms, starting with Peyton Manning, that the team hasn't forgotten how to win.

8) Steelers - One loss on the road in Chicago doesn't mean the Steelers have fallen apart.

9) 49ers - Big Test this weekend, in Minnesota.

10) Denver - The Broncos could very well be 3-0 by Sunday night, after beating the Raiders. Okay, they scored a fluke over the Bengals and beat Cleveland...Still, as Herm Edwards says, "You play to win the games" and Denver has...for now...

EVENADOG... I agree with you 100%.
I'm a Cowboys fan. Some jumped up and posted a sign, "Victory!" I tore it down and said, "Blown Coverages Won't Carry The Season". So no surprise for me against the Giants. Carolina they should have had a field day, but got 21 points off a WR free styling rather than running his route. The defense is getting better, but consistency in the offense needs to happen and stop making excuses for still not proving even by committee they can replace T.O. If they prove it great, but I'm not seeing it yet.

Brett lovers don't set yourself up all over again... please??? lol

Skins... I told you it is the Coach.

Ravens are real.
Giants and Eagles are Real.
Media stop making excuses for Brady as well. He is MVP and supposed all that so why is missing Welker hurting him so much??? Oh that is right it is a team sport. Well remember that please.

Just like what keyshawn said. When will they MEDIA give love to the WR at the end of a Hail Mary pass???? All the talk is about Brett, but that receiver had to run, dive, catch and stay in bounds!!!! Actually if the defender didn't defend him I don't think he would have gotten that trailing foot in. The defender actually knocked it to the ground. lol

Luck won't carry the season either. ;)

Mike,

You should add the functionality that will affirmatively allow users to maintain a team's current position in the ranking. It would be same?

The Ravens shouldn't be ranked #2 (ESPN has them no. 1) with the way their pass defense has performed to this point. That said, they have the no. 2 "offense" in the league right now (Yes I said offense, 2nd only to the Saints).
As far as the 1-1 teams you mention, I could name several 0-2 teams that are better than the Redskins. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they lose to the 0-2 Lions this week. I'm not a Skins hater, just a "realist".

Wins are nice and all, but how many of those teams would you pick, even in a home game, against some unranked 1-1 teams, such as the Cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins? Certainly not the 49ers or Jets. Probably not the Broncos or Ravens. More consideration should be given to the opponents faced in week 1 and 2...

Have you watched the Ravens? I hate the Ravens but they are the real deal you idiot!
