Pick Against Mike: Week 14

A great week of games with only two of them (Redskins-Raiders and Bills-Chiefs) having zero playoff implications...

Redskins at Raiders
Both teams have improved dramatically since the early weeks of the season. But the Redskins have gotten just good enough to break your heart; the Raiders, since Bruce Gradkowski has replaced Jamarcus Russell, have actually won games against big-time teams (Bengals, Steelers). Redskins continue to improve...and continue to lose. Raiders win at home.

Lions at Ravens
Ravens finally get a game where Joe Flacco doesn't have to do so much, and beat the Lions to keep hope alive.

Seahawks at Texans
Houston is playing for any hope of wild-card miracle and the coach's job. Let's see how much they like him. Texans, narrowly.

Packers at Bears
If you're not in last place, Bears can't beat you. Pack putting it together will take apart Bears lame offense and win in Chicago.

Saints at Falcons
Atlanta is limping to the finish line, which is too bad because three weeks ago this looked like a monster game. It isn't anymore. Saints keep marching.

Bills at Chiefs
Who knows about these two? Buffalo has played better in recent weeks; Chiefs played pretty well in early and mid-November. Toss up! Take the home team. K.C.

Broncos at Colts
I've been picking against Colts a lot lately, hoping to cash in on the one week they lose...Stupid. Peyton Manning is way up to the challenge of playing the No. 2 defense in the AFC.

Panthers at Patriots
Expecting to see the effort and performance of angry champion; Panthers don't have what it takes to exploit Patriots' weak defense. New England big.

Jets at Bucs
Jets have a whole lot to play for and the backup quarterback under center. Every time I put trust in the J-E-T-S I wind up regretting it. Tampa in an upset.

Dolphins at Jaguars
Could be the most entertaining game of the week. Winner has a good shot at making the playoffs. I LOVE Miami. I'm taking JAX at home.

Bengals at Vikings
Let's see what the Vikings are made of. They bully the bad teams, as they should, but got bullied in Arizona last week. Nice matchup of division winners. Vikings by a field goal in the dome.

Rams at Titans
Titans by a lot...a whole lot.

Chargers at Cowboys
Manhood Game for the Cowboys. If they don't win this one it all comes crumbling down, with the Saints on deck. How 'bout them Cowboys!

Eagles at Giants
Boy, how do you call this one. Brian Westbrook in uniform and on the field, even for 15 plays would help. I'm torn...when torn over a division game take the home team. G-Men. It's their last gasp at making the playoffs.

Cardinals at 49ers
Revenge game. Arizona can take the division at least one home playoff game by beating the Niners, who won the first matchup in Az. Cardinals 5-1 on the road this year with the one loss that miracle play by the Titans in Tennessee. Cards win a bruising, tough, NFC East/Central kind of battle.

Editor's note: Play the pick 'em game and compare your results to Mike's here.

And here was Mike's errant Thursday night pick...

Steelers at Browns
Am I a fool for thinking the Steelers can still get on a roll to end this season? Well, this is like a playoff game. Lose and it's over. Steelers beat an improving Browns team

You say you LOVE the Dolphins...and then you pick against them. Next week, show them some real love, okay?

Playing a pick 'em game straight up with no lines? Weak as hell. Include a point spread and at least make it interesting. You aren't CBS, NBC or Fox here, under pressure to pretend gambling doesn't exist.

Mike,

It's nice to see that you have come to your senses and are picking the Colts to win this weekend against Denver. Although some of the Colts wins were sloppy this season, Patton Manning and the Colts do one thing better than any NFL team. They know how to win even if they're behind by a few touchdowns. It's too bad the Redskins haven't mastered that skill this year. Thanks.
